our mission

We are committed to providing assistance that directly impacts the lives of women who are undergoing breast and other gynecological cancers.

1 of Us was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina with a mission of helping women undergoing cancer treatment. Backed by a grass roots community of givers, 1 of Us was founded as 1 in 9 in 2010 to provide financial support for women undergoing breast cancer treatment. After assisting nearly 1,000 patients, the mission of this organization was expanded to assisting women being treated for all gynecological cancers. 1 of Us is proud to partner with UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Duke Raleigh Hospital and Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina and Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina, to reach these patients. We are even prouder to continue to provide all that support through the generosity of local businesses and individual donors.

Stephanie Beguelin

FOUNDER

1in9, now 1ofUs, was born during Stephanie’s battle with breast cancer. When she was diagnosed, her three children were under the age of 6, and she was blessed to be blanketed in the support of family, friends and church. It was during her own cancer treatment at UNC Hospitals that Stephanie and her husband, Eric, became acutely aware of the barriers faced by so many patients that kept them from completing their treatment. The Beguelins and a few close friends poured their hearts and hands into creating a non-profit that would assist other breast cancer patients in financial crisis. Stephanie is a cancer survivor on the front line of 1ofUs every day. Managing patient support plans as well as working with local businesses and donors to provide the much needed funds for patients is her primary focus. Stephanie is a graduate of USC-Spartanburg and is married to Eric, co-founder of 1in9/1ofUS and is blessed with 3 beautiful and very busy children.

Nesha Daubenspeck

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

These past 7 years being the Community Outreach Director has been such a blessing for Nesha and she is so honored to be the new Executive Director of 1ofUs!

Born and raised in Raleigh, Nesha is a true native of the great state of NC. She graduated from UNC Wilmington with a BS in Business Management and Marketing, and returned to the Capital City to join the family business where she worked for 10 years. During that time she had the opportunity to learn from her father, not only working in the company, but also in sharing his passion for giving back to the community through fundraising events and golf tournaments. In 2015 Nesha was the Chair for the Pink Tie Affair Gala and completely fell in love with the mission of 1ofUs and our direct impact work with patients. She joined the team shortly after the Gala and has been organizing and planning events to help 1ofUs grow throughout NC ever since.
Nesha is happily married to Thorne, and they have two boys who keep them crazy busy along with their Labrador, Jedi.

Tanya Hollenbeck

PROJECT MANAGER & VOLUNTEER

Tanya is the person the 1 of Us team turns to without fail when there is a big project on the horizon. Armed with spreadsheets and data, Tanya cuts right to the chase and figures  out the best way to get things done.  Tanya is a Certified Project Manager at her day job, but it is her close relationship with Stephanie and Eric Beguelin, that leads her to devote countless hours to sharing her organizational talents with 1 of Us. Tanya has been the Race Director for three Pink Shamrock 5ks to benefit 1in9, now 1 of Us, but running isn’t her passion. She and her husband Bob can usually be found on the baseball field with their son’s team.

Liz Poole

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Liz began with 1in9 as a volunteer and from Day 1 the organization and its mission quickly became her passion. She spent several years before working as a healthcare provider, focused on Emergency Room and Intensive Care patients, but after taking care of the first 1in9 patient she realized that helping women through their breast cancer battle was what she was meant to do. Liz moved from a volunteer role to managing special events and now her primary objective is building long term relationships with businesses and private donors. Liz is committed to the women and families who need the financial support of 1ofUs. She is also a dog mom to Izzy and Tucker, an avid reader and loves spending time at the beach.

Robin Woody

PATIENT & FAMILY COORDINATOR

Robin Woody is a native of Raleigh, NC.  After graduating from ECU Nursing School, Robin worked as a pediatric nurse before moving into pharmaceutical research and then sales.  As a pediatric nurse, Robin was trained as an Asthma educator and performed Pulmonary Function Testing among pediatric patients.  After Robin became a mom, she decided to take a break from nursing and enjoy some time at home.  In 2019, Robin wanted to reconnect and engage in the medical field, where she found 1ofUs. She truly enjoys everything she does helping our NC women and families battle breast and gynecological cancer.

Most of Robin’s free time is spent with her husband cheering on their daughter at tennis or softball! If not at a sporting event, then you’ll find their family enjoying the sun and sand of the coast or the cool breezes and views of the NC mountains.
